Lajos Szente received Derek Horton Award

Congratulations to Lajos Szente for being awarded by the American Chemical Society’s  CARB Division with 2017 Derek Horton Award in Industrial Carbohydrate Chemistry.  
Derek Horton was the professor of chemistry at the Ohio State University. He was the founder and editor of the leading journal Carbohydrate Research and was editor of the annual book series Advances in Carbohydrate Chemistry and Biochemistry. Horton published more than 500 articles and holds numerous patents in the carbohydrate chemistry field.

This award was established after Horton’s death in 2015 to recognize awardees distinguished achievements in and outstanding contributions to industrial carbohydrate chemistry, irrespective of the age and nationality of the recipients. The Horton award was handed over to Szente in the cyclodextrin session during the 2018 Spring Annual Meeting of the American Carbohydrate Society in New Orleans.  The  Horton award lectures were delivered by Dr. Charles Buchanan from Eastman Chemicals on drug/hydroxybutenyl CDs,  and by Dr. Costa Dobrenis from Albert Einstein University on CDs in the therapy of Niemann-Pick type C disease and by the awardee on Cyclodextrins Excipients and Therapeutic Agents: “ from toy to tool”.
