New international and Chinese patent applications for the production of heptakis(2,6-di-O-alkyl)-beta-cyclodextrins

45 years ago, Szejtli et al. reported on the synthesis of heptakis(2,6-di-O-methyl)-beta-cyclodextrin using dimethyl sulfate as alkylating agent in a solution of beta-cyclodextrin prepared with 1: 1 DMSO- DMF mixture containing equal amount of BaO and Ba(OH)2 • 8H2O. CycloLab Ltd. still found novelty in their follow-up, revised technology based on Szejtli's work and recently new patent applications related to synthesis of heptakis(2,6-di-O-alkyl)-beta-cyclodextrin have been published, signalling continued research and development in the field of pharmaceutical formulations and delivery systems.
In the past years CycloLab has submitted international and national patent applications for the production of heptakis(2,6-di-O-alkyl)-beta-cyclodextrins. We are happy to announce that more than a year in March of 2024 the international patent application for the 2,6-di-O-alkylated cyclodextrins, and the Chinese patent application was published on 1 July 2025.
